Febuary 12 2016
Kristen McNay
Proposal: 20 percent time
Horses and Children
Needs and Opportunities
The barn that I go to takes underprivliged children and autuistic children and lets them ride horses for fun. We have an event for almost every holiday.
Audience / Clients / Users
Story book farms will benefit from this project. The people who want to learn horse care will benefit. And children that get the wonderful opportunities to be on horses will also benefit. I go out to the barn 2 or 3 times a week and will be able to interview them then or on the “fieldtrips.”
Mentors
My riding instructor and owner of Storybook Farms Mrs.Dena Little.

recent struggles and success

                                                                                                                                                 2/19/16
Last week I tried out new chaps. They worked out well. The Chaps are used to help the rider to stay on the horse while trotting or galloping. They are an amazing product. I will post a link for them later in my blog.

Also, we are hosting an event at story book farms Sunday. I am going to be a leader. Our main purpose of this event is to make other autistic children happy while learning about horses. I have done other events before this one. They all were so amazing to experience the great joy that they carry. My favorite event was the Halloween event. I was in charge of the pumpkin walk[It is just like a cake walk except for the fact they are walking for pumpkins]!

I also have had some complications in this as well as successes. As I have a very sweet but sometimes headstrong horse. Getting him to lift his feet as I pick them is a task within its self. Also  he is 22 years old. They live to be 30, so he is very old.

Sometimes the tacking equiptment brakes. That can be considered a complication. Also you have to have the right attire that fits you and the horse. That can cost a lot of money.
Over all I have really enjoyed the start to this project! I will post pictures of the Halloween party in a separate document!

the parts of a horse

                                                                                                                                                       2/12/16

 - To better understand and connect with your horse when you are tacking and riding  you need to know the parts of a horse.
